What Customers are saying about Slate Creek Beef

5 stars

Bought 1/2 hog still loving every single package of it. It was super easy just two phone calls one to producer and one to processor then pay and pick up. Very high quality product and buying local from a great family feels nice.

How It Works

From farm to your freezer — simple, transparent, and worth the wait.

STEP 1

Browse real farms near you

Explore listings from local southern Indiana farms. See what's available — beef or hog, estimated weight, price per pound, and when it's heading to the butcher. Every listing is a real animal from a real farmer near you.

STEP 2

Reserve your quarters

Choose how much you want — a quarter, half, or whole. Secure your reservation with a $100 deposit via Stripe. Your full total is confirmed once the butcher has weighed your animal — we'll always show you the estimated total upfront so there are no surprises.

STEP 3

Prepare for processing

On the handover date, your farmer delivers to the butcher. Expect the butcher to call to confirm your cut selection.

STEP 4

Your Meat Gets Processed & Weighed

Your local butcher processes, packages, and weighs your order. Once done, we'll send you the final invoice — your total minus the $100 you already paid. Simple, fair, and fully transparent. Please note butcher fees are paid separately at pickup.

STEP 5

Pay the Balance & Pick Up

Pay the remaining balance online, then head to the butcher at your scheduled pickup time. Your order will be packaged, labelled, and ready to go straight into your freezer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your bulk order provides you with a variety of premium cuts from a single animal. Each package is professionally processed, packaged for freshness, and clearly labeled. For a quarter beef, you'll receive approximately 75–120 pounds of meat including: • Premium Steaks – Ribeye, T-Bone, and Sirloin • Quality Roasts – Chuck, Rump, and Tip • Ground Beef – Typically 35–40 pounds • Additional Cuts – Brisket, Short Ribs, and Stew Meat View approximate yields
The butcher will call you within a few days of your animal being processed. Please answer or promptly return this call to ensure your meat is cut to your preferences. During this call, they’ll ask about: • Steaks: Choose thickness (¾″ to 1½″), number per package (1 or 2), and bone-in or boneless options. • Roasts: Select size (standard 3-4 lbs, can be adjusted for your family). • Ground Beef: Pick package size (1 or 2 lbs), lean preference, and optional patties. • Special Requests: Decide on soup bones, organ meat, beef fat, or custom items like stir fry meat. • Any roasts or misc. cuts that are not wanted can be turned into ground beef. If you miss the call, the butcher will try to reach you again. After 48 hours with no response, your meat will be cut to standard family-friendly specifications.
Our pricing is straightforward - you only pay for what you receive, calculated by price per pound. Your final cost depends on: • The actual weight of your portion • The market price per pound • Your choice of premium cuts • Processing preferences (steak thickness, package sizes) • Optional add-ons (patties, specialty items) Please note: Processing fees are paid directly to the butcher at pickup. This is separate from your order payment. Buying in bulk typically saves 25-40% compared to purchasing the same premium cuts individually at retail prices. We’ll provide your exact total once processing is complete.
Your order will be ready for pickup at the butcher shop specified during checkout. Here’s how it works: 1. You’ll receive an estimated completion date at purchase 2. We’ll send you an email when your order is ready 3. Once payment is finalized, you can pick up your order 4. Pickup location details are included in your confirmation emails Please note: The estimated ready date is a projection - we’ll provide the exact date once processing is complete. Currently, we don’t offer delivery service.
Required freezer space varies by order size: • 1/4 Beef: 4-5 cubic feet (about half of a standard chest freezer) • 1/2 Beef: 8-10 cubic feet • Whole Beef: 16-20 cubic feet If you need additional storage, quality used chest freezers are often available locally at reasonable prices.
